Founder/Artistic Director
Bug Maclean-Smith
(he/they)
Bug is the founder of Bug's Backyard. They have been in the theatre world for 11 years, their most notable roles being Sandy; Grease, Rocky; Rocky Horror and Mrs Potts; Beauty and the Beast. They have also directed/choreographed a few shows including A Chorus Line, Ride the Cyclone and Rocky Horror. He is currently studying at Capilano University for Musical Theatre. Before going to Capilano, he studied at JCI in their makeup artistry program.

Farida Rawdah

Farida is an artist who started pursuing theatre when they came to BC from the US in 2018. They've been with Bug's Backyard since 2022 and have since performed as Constance in Ride The Cyclone (2023) and directed Heathers The Musical (2024), as well as supported other productions from off the stage.

Music Director
Heather Mislang
(they/she)
Heather Mislang (They/She) is a Vancouver-based music director, musician, vocalist, composer, and actress with half a decade of experience teaching voice, vocal ensemble, and piano. She has a diploma from the Canadian College of Performing Arts' two-year performance program as well as twelve years of RCM piano and music theory experience. Prior to post-secondary, Heather excelled as a competitive classical pianist, jazz ensemble pianist, and was a lead singer in a rock band. Heather is ecstatic to be music-directing Bug's Backyard Theatre's production of Carrie.

Dominique Bowden
(she/they)
Dominique is originally from Santa Ana, California and grew up performing in musicals, working backstage and assisting with scenic painting and props. Some of their most notable roles include Jojo; Seussical the Musical, Rosemary; How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and Dorothy; The Wizard Of Oz, all with The Music Room in Orange, CA. After a long hiatus from the musical theatre world, they are thrilled to be performing again with Bug's Backyard!

Milada Kubb
(she/her)
Milada Kubb is a Performing and Visual artist who is originally from Mission British Columbia and a recent graduate of the Canadian College of Performing Arts. Some of her past performances include roles in Peter and the Starcatcher, Anne of Green Gables (CCPA), Tuck Everlasting (Theatre Al Dente) Mamma Mia, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, High School Musical Onstage (Mission Secondary), and It’s a Wonderful Life (Theatre in the Country). She also appeared in Implanted (Hidden Valley Entertainment) and A Christmas Wish (Pen and Paper Footage). Milada has also recently created and choreographed an original ballet Our Tomorrow which explores queer identities in the mid 20th century. Milada is currently pursuing her diploma in costume design at Capilano University and continues to explore and create unique and meaningful stories.

Robin has loved theatre ever since they can remember. In high school, she played as Sour Kangaroo in Seussical and Mike in Theory of Relativity. Robin also has experience with costume design & is excited to do much more!

Ivy Crawford
(she/they)
Ivy has been doing musical theatre since she was very young and has been in love with it ever since! Having been involved with a few local theatre companies, some of her favourite credits include; Katherine in Newsies, Olivia in Twelfth Night, Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors, and is currently playing Donna in Mamma Mia! Also coming up this year, she will be directing Into The Woods. Ivy is so excited to be joining Bug's Backyard in Carrie!

Bryn Willis

Bryn is a teacher and actor, and has been performing in plays and musicals around BC for the past 14 years. Recent credits include Robbie in Without Rule Of Law at the Vancouver Fringe Festival (Rough Magic Theatre), Ernst in Spring Awakening (Delta Players Theatre), Attie in Tadpole at the Victoria One Act Festival (We're All Friends Theatre Co.), and Auden in A Kind of Apocalypse (UVic SATCo). Bryn is thrilled to be working with Bug's Backyard Theatre for the first time!

Kas was always in every music/theatre class in high school. She got cast as Oliver in Theory of Relativity and Yurtle the Turtle in Seussical the Musical. They also work at Arts Umbrella and have loved learning more backstage responsibilities working there!

Shantei Leal

Shantei Leal is currently attending her first year in the Musical Theatre program at Capilano University. Theatre has been a part of her life for as long as she can remember. Some of her favourite experiences include: Anne; Anne of Green Gables, Donkey; Shrek the Musical, Belle; Beauty and the Beast and Morticia; The Addams Family. She is currently teaching Pre-school musical theatre at the Stage New West because she loves watching young performers find their place in the spotlight. SHe is so excited to be a part of Bug's Backyard for the first time and can't wait to put on an amazing show!

Annie Burns

Annie Burns (she/her) is a 19 year old actor and musician from Southern BC. Annie has worked with various theatre companies across BC, including The Capitol Theatre, Studio 58 School of Performing Arts (one semester), and Art's Umbrella musical theatre troupe. She has enjoyed and participated in the theatrical arts since the age of five. Annie thanks her parents for their endless guidance and support!

Lighting Design
Samson Leitz
(he/him)
Samson is 21 years old and a psychology student at Kwantlen Polytechnic University. He works with Bug's Backyard doing tech.

Sound Design
Levi Saunders
(he/they)
Levi is 21 years old and a casual actor. Bug's Backyard offers him the perfect chance to continue acting and connecting with others through performance post-graduation. When not with Bug's Backyard, Levi can be found writing music and fixing bikes.

Stagehand
Sam Folka
(he/they)
Sam is 18 and is helping Bug's Backyard backstage this season! Theatre has been a hobby of theirs for quite a few years now. He's been working with The Stage New West since late 2022 - rehearsing as Leaf Coneybear; The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and performing as Matthew Cuthbert; Anne of Green Gables. They are currently working on their 2024 production! He's excited to branch out with different groups and get some experience with every aspect of live theatre!
